The itching in the genitals can be related to different factors: hormonal imbalance, sexually transmitted diseases … These irritations, very unpleasant and annoying, are often without consequences, but to treat them well, it is important to be attentive to certain signs for know what triggers them. Here are the 6 most common reasons that cause itching in the genitals.

Intimate itching: very common sensations

The most common causes of itching in the genitals are sensitivities to certain products (lotions for personal hygiene) or to certain components present in some products (use of tampons or sanitary napkins, etc.), or they appear following a prolonged humidity (pool, beach …) that will cause these annoying sensations.

Here are the 6 most common reasons for itching and the main signs to identify:

1. Fungal infections

When the natural acidity of the vagina is disrupted, some signs appear (irritation, redness, vaginal itching) that may be related to a fungal infection. These infections can be caused by taking certain antibiotics, hormonal contraceptives, stress or simply a change in your diet.

Fungal infections are very common in women, they are characterized by white and thick secretions, caused by a proliferation of yeasts (fungi) naturally present in the vagina. These microorganisms can, in rare cases, be transmitted to humans during sexual intercourse. To treat a yeast infection, it is advisable to wash intimate with Canesten cream or to take an antibiotic medication.

To naturally treat vaginal yeast infections, there is a natural remedy: garlic. Natural antibiotic and fungicide, garlic is a very effective food to overcome many infections.

2. The lichen sclerosus

It is a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin whose main symptom is the irritation of the vulva and which is also accompanied by white spots on the skin. Only a gynecologist can establish the diagnosis of this disease, and prescribe a suitable treatment.

3. The crabs

The presence of crabs causes, in the majority of cases, itching in the genitals. If you have crabs, you must buy a specific skin care product in a pharmacy to get rid of it. At first, you will “kill” the crabs, and then remove them.

4. Hormonal changes

In case of hormonal disturbance (menstruation, pregnancy, menopause …) or if you take a contraceptive pill, you may be exposed to vaginal itching. Vaginal dryness is a sign that the hormones are causing this itching. Try to avoid scented products that may increase irritation of the genitals. If this persists, consult a gynecologist.

5. Eczema and psoriasis

This skin condition can cause redness and very uncomfortable itching in the genital area. To relieve the discomfort felt, an oatmeal bath (previously crushed) or certain medications (corticosteroid hydrocortisone) can be very effective. If you do not see any improvement in these signs after one week, seek advice from a gynecologist.

6. Some diseases can cause itching

Vaginal itching can occur due to various health problems such as kidney disease: bile ducts and kidney stones. In this case, it is a question of treating the disease first to stop the itching. This itching may also be related to Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) such as herpes, vulvovaginal fungus, etc.

The signs of these diseases are many: burning sensation during urination, inflammation of the lips, painful intercourse, etc. The persistence of these signs should not be taken lightly, you should consult a doctor for a checkup.
